Secondary Rhinoplasty
You are not condemned to any result that you are not unhappy with your first rhinoplasty!
Revision Rhinoplasty, also known as Correction Rhinoplasty, is a rhinoplasty surgery performed after a previous rhinoplasty surgery in which complications have occurred.
What is Revision Rhinoplasty?
Revision Rhinoplasty is a more complex surgery than Rhinoplasty surgery. While this surgery is sometimes the failure of the first surgery, sometimes it is the inability to prevent deformities that occur while healing, although you can make the bone and cartilage placement perfectly. Sometimes the opening of the support sutures or the trauma in this process necessitates the Revision Rhinoplasty. Revision Rhinoplasty, which contains various problems, is a sensitive surgery that mostly requires re-establishing skeletal support, and its risks are higher.
Since Revision Rhinoplasty is one of the most complex rhinoplasty surgeries, you should consult a specialist and experienced doctor for a good result. Professor of our clinic's valuable doctors Prof. Cenk Şen, M.D. has achieved worldwide success in the field of Revision Rhinoplasty. He is one of the few doctors who specialized in Complicated Revision Rhinoplasty and was also consulted by his colleagues.
Before having a Simple Rhinoplasty, a front and profile picture is requested from the patient. You can also do this by sending it digitally via our website without coming to our clinics (link). Our specialist doctors prepare the final version of your nose by considering the necessary design.
How is Revision Rhinoplasty performed?
Before the Revision Rhinoplasty, the patient goes through a detailed examination. Sagging, collapsing, asymmetry in the nostrils, bone and cartilage problems that occur in the nose are detected. The expectations of the patient are also determined.
Whether to perform the surgery under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia is decided according to the procedures to be performed. Closed or Open Nose Aesthetics will be decided during the diagnosis. The surgery may take between 1.5 and 4 hours depending on the procedures decided to be performed.
Cartilage and graft support may be required for Revision Rhinoplasty. Nasal septum cartilage can often be used or inadequate. For this reason, it may be necessary to take cartilage from the ear or from the rib according to need.
Revision Rhinoplasty is applied 6 months after the previous surgery for non-multiple problems, and complicated interventions are applied 1-2 years after the previous surgery.
Who Can Have Revision Rhinoplasty?
- People whose nose tip is narrower than normal, wider, asymmetrical, low, drooping or excessively shortened and raised.
- The nostrils are asymmetrical or wide.
- People with collapse in the lateral walls of the nose and those accompanied by breathing difficulties.
- People who have the appearance of arches, depressions, parrot nose on the back of the nose.
- People who have a curved nose problem or start, deviation or persist.
- People with skin and soft tissue problems in the nose.
How is it after the Revision Rhinoplasty?
After Revision Rhinoplasty, it is extremely natural to feel swelling, bruising and pain depending on the technique and your body. Cold compresses can help relieve swelling and pain, if any. Objects such as ice or ice packs should not be placed in the nose. Problems such as edema and bruising in your nose pass quickly and day by day. You can switch to social life after an average of 10 days.
There may be mild or moderate pain after Revision Rhinoplasty. These pains can be easily relieved with normal painkillers.
Splint and bandages around the nose are removed within an average of one week, according to the intervention performed in rhinoplasty. However, most of the nose aesthetic operations are now performed without the use of such apparatuses.
The plaster and tampons that allow the rhinoplasty to heal in a healthy way are removed painlessly after 2 or 3 days, and the plaster is removed after an average of 1 week. Today, it is possible to breathe more easily with perforated tampons.
Keeping your head elevated for the first few days after surgery will minimize swelling. You may need to keep your head up and relatively steady while sleeping. Avoid strenuous activities such as aerobics and jogging, do not blow the nose, avoid constipation, and avoid excessive facial expressions such as laughing. It may take several weeks for you to return to strenuous activities.
It is easy to wear wide-necked or front-opening clothes, wide hats, and wearing lenses instead of glasses. During the first month, the nose should be protected from the direct effects of sunlight and protective creams should be used.
Follow-up and care is very important after rhinoplasty surgery. You should report any progress to your surgeon, such as excessive bleeding, unexpected swelling, fever or severe pain. For techniques such as massage, nasal sprays or small drug injections that resemble cortisone during the healing process, or for techniques that will further improve the desired result, you can only get approval from your doctor and ask him to do the application.
It may take 6 months to 1 year for the new nose shape to settle after nasal surgery.
